In a Word: Epic

This morning at 12:05, I watched the best movie I’ve seen in quite sometime (if not my lifetime). I hold back on saying for sure it’s the best I’ve seen in my lifetime, because of that whole distorted reality field of calling the most recent good movie I’ve seen the best movie ever. If you know not the movie I speak of, then you have been living under a rock and may God have mercy on your soul. I am speaking, of course, about The Dark Knight.

Don’t worry, there will be no spoilers here. I hate when a movie or book is spoiled for me, so I will not do that to you. However, I will wax poetic about how much I loved the movie. When I first left the theater, all I could think about was how great Heath Ledger was as the Joker. When I say great, I mean so good that words cannot quantify how brilliant I thought he was. Basically, he was everything I thought the Joker should be (no knock on Jack, but I like this version of the Joker better). I mean, when I say Heath Ledger is damn near scary as the Joker, words cannot do it justice:

Even if you didn’t see how villainous he is or hear how menacing his laugh is, you’d still find him slightly scary if you came across him. As a matter of fact, I’d probably shit my pants if I met him on the street.

But after I woke up this morning, I couldn’t help but think about how good everyone else was in their roles. I mean, when I say this movie is cast perfectly, I mean it. When I was watching it, I didn’t think “this is a comic book movie”; instead, I thought “this is a movie.” I know, it’s a subtle difference, but it just seemed real to me. The plot, the characters emotions, it all seemed plausible (even if the action was extreme and very unlikely to happen).

Sitting in class, I’m left to think these thoughts: Christian Bale is by far the best Batman (no more arguments about that), Michael Caine is spectacular as Alfred, Aaron Eckhart is mesmerizing as Harvey Dent, and this list of how good each actor was could continue until my fingers hurt. There is nothing I can say to explain how good I think this movie is. So, all I will say is this: go see it. Go!
