Insurance Experience

State Farm Insurance I remember when I first took my car into my name and had to deal with paying for my own insurance. I was quite intimidated by it all. First, I was with Progressive. Everything was good until I was informed that I could save money by switching to State Auto. So I switched to State Auto (not to be confused with State Farm). After I bought my new car (my Volkswagen Rabbit) and my insurance was coming up due, I really didn’t know what to do. Then my grandmother’s insurance agent told her to send me in to get a quote.

The agent at the time, Daniel, had known me through his younger brother David. After talking to him for a while, I was informed I could in fact save money with State Farm. So I took the plunge and signed up with State Farm. Over the past year, I have been extremely happy with my service. They have always been great to me and have always been very nice when talking with me. Never have they talked down to me and they have always treated me with respect, even though I did not know that much about how insurance policies work. They explained everything in a way that even I could understand.

Even though Daniel has now left the particular agency I go through, I still have someone who works there that I know personally and is always very helpful. It’s nice to have someone you know, who you can always call for help, and they won’t think you’re an idiot for simple questions. Case in point: I received a noticed that my insurance was coming up for renewal this next month. No problem, I can pay for it. But, there was a form in there that said that if I made good grades in college, I would be eligible for a discount. The form, however, stated that it needed to be signed by a school official. Well, I really don’t want to haggle with school officials, so I called Katie, my inside girl at State Farm, to ask her if it was really necessary. After a short conversation, I was told that a simple transcript would suffice. This helps me out greatly by saving me time and effort.

Sorry to praise good service, but isn’t that typically how it happens? I know many people do not like insurance companies, but I am pretty happy with mine. I just dread the day that I move out of state and Katie can no longer help me out. I just hope that there are other nice State Farm employees out there.

  1. Insurance companies are just like cell phone companies in my op. I think they are pretty much all miss. There are no hits. Insurance companies are fine with you as long as you pay your premium (which you get nothing back from when you don’t use it). Its when you have 1 too many wrecks (that may not even be your fault) or 1 or 2 speeding tickets. As soon as it requires them to spend just a little bit of money, they seem to not be as polite. And its not the lower level people that are causing these problems. Not your local branch (the guys you see in your town). They dont have control over this. Its the big dogs that handle the policies.

Sorry. I know that was a “debbie downer” comment but the insurance industry angers me. There is no one who is better to switch to though. They are all just as terrible. Just like the cell phone companies.

Its good to have someone you know though helping you thats always nice.

  2. No doubt that you are probably correct. I’m sure if I get into trouble, they will not be so great, but at least I’m getting great service at the lower level right now. Many times that always makes me feel better. Just like when Melissa C. worked at an AT&T store in Mayfield when I first signed up with Cingular. She was of course nice to me and it made me feel better. One of those things, it feels good to be treated well.
