Decided to upgrade to an HD service and boy am I paying for it. Waiting inline at an Insight DIY store for the second time today… awesome. I’ll be sure to share my overall experience once this pain is over.
Full Story: As of late, I had decided that I wanted a few more channels for my television and preferably some high definition channels. After price shopping for a while, I settled on Dish Network. I was a bit bummed at the lack of FX in the package that I wanted (would totally miss It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) but I figured I could always catch it on Hulu.com. Anyway, fast forward to today. The Dish Network installation guy comes to check everything out and informs me that because of a tree line I have directly behind my apartment, I would be unable to get signal. That was my first disappointment of the day. Next I figured I could always go the cable route. After all, I have had many problems with our cable provider (except for that time where we were without internet for a month a few years back).
I call Insight and get a few questions answered. They tell me it would be Tuesday before they could get anyone to come out to the apartment. No biggie. But then the agent informs me that I can actually go and pick up my equipment from an Insight store and hook it up myself. This sounds like a great plan really. I’m fairly confident I can hook up a cable box. So I head down to the Insight store to find out that it is inside a Kroger in a tiny little area. So I wait inline for a few minutes and they call me up there. They ask me what package I want and I tell them I saw a package on their website that included HD channels for $15 a month on top of our current bill. I’m pretty sure that she added other stuff to our plan, but will find out for sure tomorrow when I call Insight to check. Anyway, I’m handed a box and sent on my way.
After arriving at my apartment, I start to examine the equipment I was given. “That’s odd,” I muse. “There doesn’t seem to be a remote in this package.” Surprise! There wasn’t. Awesome. So I drive back to the Insight store and end up waiting in an even longer line this time (hence the initial post above). I’m not complaining about the line issue, because I’m not above waiting inline or anything like that. I am a little peeved at having to come back down there because they forgot to give me all of the equipment. I know I would have been fine without the remote but all I needed was to return the equipment sometime without the remote that I was never given and have them try to charge me a penalty because I was not returning the remote. Anyway, I’m enjoying my new cable setup. I haven’t had it long enough to know if I’ll truly love it or not, but time will tell. If only I had a Snuggie so that I could keep warm while holding Buckley and watching television. That would be awesome.
