The past few days have been extremely scary. I’ve been very fortunate in not having anything happen to me, my car, or my apartment. We still have electricity and my cell phone still works. Unfortunately, my family and friends from Mayfield, Kentucky have not been so lucky. I have sporadically spoken with Ashley, have kept in contact with my little sister through text messaging (for some reason, they can text but they can’t send or receive calls), and I have rarely heard from my grandmother. The whole experience has actually been quite frightening. We live in a world that’s so well connected that it can sometimes be difficult to find some time to yourself where you won’t be bothered. This week has reminded me how important it is to stay connected. People in western Kentucky are without electricity and phones (landline or cellular). I’ve heard that it could be weeks before they regain electricity. That’s just frightening, especially in the dead of winter.
Anyway, before I start to ramble, I hope you and your family are safe. Also, if you want to see some of the damage being done around my apartment, check my flickr page or this web gallery.
