My First Cell Phone
Monday, June 30, 2008 at 08:12PM
The other day as I was cleaning up around my room and looking around through various boxes, I ran into my first ever cell phone. I remember getting this bad boy when I was a junior in high school and it was amazing. To this day, it was probably the most reliable cell phone that I've ever owned. I had this phone through AT&T (before they took over Cingular and became the worst cell service provider ever) and really enjoyed the service. I kept this phone until about midway through my freshman year in college, then for reasons I should regret, I got a different phone. Truthfully, I really needed to as I was preparing to jump underneath the Cingular umbrella and to do that I needed a GSM capable phone (as AT&T used to be CDMA), but I still reminisce about how reliable this phone was. I honestly remember dropping the phone repeatedly and it kept on working. A few scuffs, scratches, and a loose-fitting battery later, and it still worked as good as the day I first got it.
I wonder, how many people ended up with this phone at one time or another. It seems like everyone of my friends had one of these around the time I got mine and it was basically the default phone for the longest time (if you signed a contract, this was the one they gave you for free and pushed you out the door). It's a shame they don't make them as reliable as this anymore… but then again, this phone lacked any messaging (other than SMS messaging) and was essentially just a phone, not the small computer in our pockets that we have today. Happy memories about these phones? Remember your first phone? Share away, as I'm sure this was probably your first phone as well.

My first phone was pimp! It was grey and you could change the faceplate and keys. I used to put these awesome orange keys on it. It was boss. Although I think the phone I have now is more reliable...it's lived a fall off of a 3 story balcony. I love my little tank phone.
I kept mine original. I like the rugged original look, although I constantly took the faceplate off mine just to do it and I don't know why. BTW, Snake on there was the best phone game ever.
My first cell phone...picture a large black bag phone that had to be plugged into the car to be able to use it. Not that it mattered because there was such limited coverage and the minutes were so expensive that I could only use it in a dire emergency. But even then, it just made me feel safe (and oh so cool) having it. Besides, that was only 17 years ago.
My dad had one of those, I remember. He let me call my house with it one time and I thought I was very cool for getting to use it. Made me feel very important. haha
Technically, mine was the http://product.samsung.com/images/prod_imgs/sgh_x427_gal_lg4.jpg" rel="nofollow">Samsung X427 but I borrowed my mothers while in high school which was this http://www.arcx.com/sites/Nokia3595.jpg" rel="nofollow"> Nokia, which I actually felt was more of a tank than the Nokia you spoke of above Todd. I will always remember that phone you are talking about though cause my dad bought a UK basketball face plate for his phone. funny.
