Home for the 4th
Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:56AM
So I've made the trek to the homeland (Mayfield) for the fourth of July holidays. Upon arrival, I realize that my grandmother's house is empty as she has joined my brother for a week in Gulf Shores. As of right now, I'm chilling in my high school bedroom, Buckley somewhere under my feet, lazily drifting through the internet waiting for the fireworks celebrations to start.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though it will all be good cheer as a good friend of mine's grandmother has passed away recently, after a long battle with various illnesses. My thoughts go out to him and his family as they have been like family to me. His mom helped me out when I was on my first co-op by supplying a cheap room for rent when I needed it and I have spent countless weekends with my friend and he has been a very important part of my life. Although we haven't been as close after high school when we took different paths, I wish nothing but the best for him and his family through this tragic time.
This is one of the many downfalls of growing up, as death seems to always be lurking around every corner and the part it plays in your life seems to grow. Sorry to be so somber during the holiday.
