A Trip to the Chiropractor
Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 07:56PM
I've been tolerating lower back and shoulder pain for the past four to five years and recently I decided to try and do something to fix my back pain. My roommate's mother works in a chiropractor's office, so I got their number from my roommate and set up an appointment. My first day there (yesterday) was an initial check-up: basically he felt around my problem areas and took some pictures with his handy-dandy x-ray machine. The great part about the first day was that it was free. Thanks to a referral from my roommate's mother, my initial visit was at no charge to me.
Today, however, was a paid visit. I went in and the doctor showed me the x-rays of my spine and pointed out where my problem areas were. He laid out a regimen of treatments for me that will last twelve days and involve a massage, an exercise plan, and finishing up with a readjustment. After mulling it over, and finding out that my insurance covers it, I decided to give it a try.
The massage was pretty good, although it was painful at times. Not unbearable painful, but if you've ever had a massage and the masseuse begins to work out a stress knot, then you know the kind of pain I'm talking about. The pain is definitely worth it though, as when the massage was finished, my back felt a lot better already. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the massage all that much as I was pretty self conscious about lying on a table in front of other patients. I mean, I was fully clothed and all that, but I still felt weird about lying down in front of people. It also didn't help that when I laid down on the table, I instantly thought of one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes.

Fortunately, I did not have the same experience as George had (and yes Debra, Harry, and Ashley, Seinfeld is funny and if you don't believe me, watch this episode⦠It's gold Jerry!).
After the massage, it was time to work out a bit. About eight minutes on the exercise bike, five minutes on a bike for your hands (to work out the shoulders) and a series of other exercises that proceeded to make me ache and breathe heavily. It's quite embarrassing to look around at twenty two years of age and realize that you are completely out of breath after thirty minutes of light exercising.
The final stop on this trip was the readjustment. Here, the doctor came in and talked some things over with me, then proceeded to push my back in angles that caused it to pop. Walking out of the office, my back and shoulder felt pretty good, except for how fatigued I felt as I left the office. Hopefully tomorrow I won't have the same fatigue issues. Wish me luck.

I don't know what scares me more, the thought of going to a chiropractor or watching Seinfeld!!
One of these days, I'm going to trick you into watching Seinfeld. You just wait. haha
