Marriage: One Year In

So as of last week (August 15th), Ashley and I have been married for a year. I think statistically, this is already pretty significant.

A lot has changed in that one year. We moved to Murfreesboro Tennessee so that she could work on her Masters degree at Middle Tennessee State University. I received my first career-related job in October at a mobile software development consultancy, after a strenuous job search. We bought Ashley a new car (had to get larger to carry our dogs as well as luggage for our frequent trips to Western Kentucky). Also in this time, we had our struggles as well. Both wondering if we were on the right career path, but never doubting that our personal life was where we wanted it. We moved across town from a townhome duplex to a rental home and then took a trip to Washington DC to celebrate another year of life together. This vacation to Washington DC just happened to occur two days after our move, which was way too stressful and nearly exhausted us both.

We are now looking forward to our second year of marriage. We believe that Murfreesboro, with some of our family, is where we will be staying for a while now. We don't know if this is our permanent place, but it's our place right now. One day, we believe we would like to move up in the Louisville or Cincinnati area, but this seems to be our place right now. So much so that we are considering looking to buy a house. I'm excited by the idea, but scared at the same time. That's a big step and a big commitment. Especially when tomorrow seems so uncertain right now.

Life is one of those things that doesn't come with a handbook, but many people try to fool you into believing there is one. We are trying to feel it out on our own and it can be so overwhelming at times, but we have each other, through the good times and the bad.
